What is Dakshana Foundation?

You might have heard of Dakshana you might have not.


Here you will get to know about Dakshana Foundation and get answers to many other queries that you may have regarding Dakshana.


I am writing it in a way so that it is useful for the students, but others may also read to know more about Dakshana.

1. What is Dakshana and what does it do?

    Dakshana is a philanthropic foundation working for poverty alleviation in India.  "Dakshana helps bright and impoverished students predominantly from rural India to prepare for IIT and medical entrance exams".

2. How does Dakshana help in the preparation for these entrance exams?

  Dakshana provides world-class coaching to the students at absolutely zero cost. Hostel and mess facilities are also provided free of cost so that students can prepare for their dreams without worrying about finances.

3. To whom does Dakshana provide these things?

Every year Dakashana selects students by conducting All India Level Entrance Exams namely NDST and JDST for selecting students. One needs to appear and qualify in these tests to become a Dakshana Scholar. Once you get selected Dakshana takes care of all that you need for preparation.


What programs are run by Dakshana?

There are two types of programs. a) 2-year program b) 1-year program.

A. 2-year program: This is meant only for students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. Students are selected by NDST and coached at various Dakshana centers located in different centers at JNV campuses. Both IIT JEE and medical programs are run. More can be seen on the website.

B. 1-year program: This program is more inclusive and is available for JNV students as well as other students also who study in Government Schools. More can be seen on the website.

How can I become a scholar at Dakshana?

If you are a student in Navodaya then you get the opportunity to take the Navodaya Dakshana Selection Test in class 10th. You can opt either for the medical or engineering option for the test. Dakshana invites students from Navodaya to take this exam for the 2-year program. To maximize your chance in the list of students invited for NDST maintain marks as good as possible. (This is partly related to the chance of being invited for NDST as other factors also matter). Check the Dakshana website for the syllabus and even some lectures for preparing for the Exam. For 12th class students also very similar process is followed for the 1-year program.

If you are not a student of Navodaya but study in Government School with science stream you still have the opportunity to take JDST and get into Dakshana. You can visit the website to know the whole process.


Who should try to get into Dakshana?

If you dream to be an engineer or a doctor but the financial condition of your family is a hurdle in your way then Dakshana is heaven for you. It is the best planet for IIT and NEET coaching on the planet. If you are financially capable and can afford coaching then you should go for a private coaching as Dakshana selects students from impoverished backgrounds only.

My thoughts on Dakshana: Dakshana is one of the rarest institutions that our society needs very much. Reading this article and others may give you an impression that Dakshana is a coaching. Don't mistake it to be that. The better thing to say is Dakshana provides coaching. There are many other beautiful aspects to Dakshana that one understands only after he becomes a scholar there because somethings are too good to be understood from outside.

I think more and more people need to know about it and more people and institutions need to work based on the Dakshana model to create a happy and equitable society.
